Buy a slice of our planned wetland – the stork will feel welcome!
You will receive a beautiful certificate from us and an invitation to the opening celebration once the wetland is completed. The wetland will be approximately 0.5 hectares in size, with a water surface area averaging around 500 m².
The photograph shows the area as it looks today, with a horse paddock on what used to be a field. This is the most suitable place for a wetland on our farm. The sketched image shows how it is intended to look.
The wetland is estimated to cost around 200,000 SEK. Half of the cost will be covered by grants and personal funding, and the other half will be funded by 50 shares.
Historical maps show that the land has been a damp meadow. Today, a drainage ditch that drains about 28 hectares is culverted through the horse paddock. The culvert is at a typical drainage depth of 120 cm. Since the landscape is flat, we face a common issue when creating/restoring wetlands and moist meadows.
Specifically, we cannot completely block the water flow in the culvert and let the land regain its natural moisture. If we did, it would drastically affect the drainage of the neighboring field – the drainage flows out into the current horse paddock. At the inlet of the neighboring drainage (our inlet), we can raise the water level to about 90 cm below the surface, and at the outlet of the drainage from the horse paddock, we can raise it to about 30 cm from the surface. To create a water surface, we need to excavate some soil.
This wetland has already been planned in detail with the county administrative board, and there is consensus with the neighbors. Once the shares start flowing in, we can finalize the application and start the project – much to the joy of the great snipe. And we will add another piece to the puzzle of the landscape that the picky white stork needs to consider nesting.
