Bird seeds for versatile ground feeding.
Lantliv mainly consists of field seeds, with a little seasoning of hemp, sunflower, rapeseed, and a variety of exciting small seeds from wild field plants.
Feeding on the ground is best in winter when the snow has settled. Keep an area of 2-50 m² cleared as much as possible, where you can sprinkle Lantliv as needed. It's best near your bird restaurant, but you can also sprinkle it on other hard, used surfaces like paths, driveways, etc. It's not recommended to scatter it directly in loose, deep snow.
Species that prefer to forage on the ground include yellowhammers, tree and rock finches, pigeons, partridges, and pheasants. Tree sparrows and house sparrows also like to forage on the ground.
Yellowhammers are flock birds that only search for food on the ground (sometimes from sheaves). They don't like sunflower seeds either, but need field seeds, which are a mix of grains and small weed seeds. Slåttergubben himself often has 100 yellowhammers at once on his approximately 40 m² cleared area.
Spreading food on the ground creates a color contrast against the snow, attracting flying birds. The larger the area, the more birds can fit. When birds are well spread out, the risk of disease transmission also decreases. For hygiene reasons, you don't need to spread food in the same spot every time – vary it a little!
Lantliv causes a transport emission equivalent to 0.04 kg CO2 equivalent/kg from the farm to our warehouse. Read more about these calculations here.
