Sunflower - for sowing -25g

Price: 1 SEK/sqm. Seeds for 50 sqm. They produce alot of seeds and good perching

Description

A 25g bag contains approximately 440 seeds and is enough for 50 square meters.

The seeds are organically certified. The variety is called Peredovik, and it usually grows sunflowers that are 180-250 cm tall, but sometimes even taller.

Sunflowers should be sown when the soil is warm, which usually happens in the first half of May in southern Sweden. Do not sow too deep, 2 cm is ideal. Sunflowers prefer warm and dry spots and usually do well without watering. You can space the rows up to one meter apart and thin the plants to 20-30 cm between each.

If you live in northern Sweden, it may be difficult to get the sunflowers to fully mature and produce seeds. In that case, you can try pre-germinating the seeds until the cotyledons are clearly visible (which only takes a few days), and then plant them outside under fabric.

The sunflower will produce many seeds, which are quickly consumed by birds in the fall. Feel free to leave them standing over the winter, as a small forest of sunflower stalks contributes to biodiversity in the garden. In the picture, a young shrike has chosen a mature sunflower as its perch, holding an earth beetle in its beak. Earth beetles are more abundant when fields are small and there are plenty of edge zones.
