Other birdhouses

Most of our wooden birdhouses are made by local hobby carpenters. We are particularly proud to sell birdhouses from Gösta in Mjölby. He was born in 1929!

Wood-concrete birdhouses

Birdhouses made of wood concrete have a very long lifespan. They are stylish too!

Is it good for the birds to put up birdhouses?

No - it doesn't really matter that much. Just like feeding birds, it becomes a targeted effort for a few small birds in the garden that are already common.

But it's fun! And absolutely no downside. That's argument enough to set up birdhouses and enjoy when they are inhabited!

Old trees with natural nesting holes have become rarer - that's what we should be worried about. There are thousands of species tied to older trees and dead wood. Just like the best bird feeding is taking care of your garden in the best possible way for a rich insect supply, the best birdhouse is the one you don't need to set up - by giving birds access to old trees and a vibrant garden environment!

There are a few birdhouses that can benefit birds that are struggling. You can set up a nest box for the kestrel. Swifts, which have long nested under single-tile roofs, lose their nesting places when the roofs are changed or gutters are installed. Some owls like the pygmy owl and the tawny owl can benefit from birdhouses. But it's still the lack of old trees that's the problem. The house martin is used to building its nests by itself, but you might be able to help a little with birdhouses - the major issue for them is likely the lack of insects in breeding environments, during migration, and when overwintering.
