Would You Like to Host a Scythe Course?
For the summer of 2023, we are looking for more locations to hold scythe courses. We would be happy to come to you if you have both long and short grass to mow somewhere between Skåne and Dalarna during the period of May 20th to August 20th.
In order to successfully conduct the courses, we have a few criteria that should be met:
- ✔ 40x50m with long grass mowed in 2022
- ✔ 20x20m with short grass
- ✔ Gravel area/gravel road where we can train with scythes
- ✔ Possibility to be under a roof if it rains (for scything and sharpening, no floor needed)
- ✔ Parking nearby
- ✔ Toilet
- ✔ Water
A bonus, of course, is if your location has beautiful surroundings, exciting cultural history, or any activity that shares our values regarding sustainability and biodiversity. A lake to cool off in wouldn’t hurt either!
If there is the possibility to eat and/or stay with you or nearby, it is also an advantage!

Information About Our Scythe Courses
Our scythe courses are aimed at individuals who want to learn to mow with a scythe. Usually, there are 1-2 instructors and 8-10 course participants.
We bring everything needed to hold the course, including scythes with accessories and equipment for peening and sharpening the scythes.
During the course day, we go through the assembly of the scythe, how to peen and sharpen it, and basic movements for good mowing technique. Then, we practice with the scythe on gravel to get the right ground contact, and finally, we practice mowing short and long grass.
The mowing itself is very quiet, but there can be some noise when we peen the scythe blades or use certain tools.
In most cases, these are one-day courses from 09:30 to 17:00. In some cases, we arrange two-day courses where we stay overnight (in tents, vans, nearby hotels) and enjoy having dinner around an open fire.
