The hazelnut is the only nut that some of our Swedish birds have a relationship with. It is primarily the charismatic southern nutcracker that is particularly dependent on it. Jays, great spotted woodpeckers, and nuthatches are also capable of breaking the hard shell.
The nuts are shelled, which is why they can also become attractive to other birds. This can be both good and bad, of course... Considering the price, it might be better if they had the shell intact so they were reserved for, for example, the nutcracker, when it eventually appears.
However, the nutcracker is an uncommon guest at bird feeders, so don't expect to see one just because you serve hazelnuts.
If you have personal experiences and tips regarding feeding with hazelnuts, please share them with us!
The hazelnuts are purchased as food-grade. Since we are a feed company, they are technically considered feed when we sell them – and you pay 25% VAT instead of 12%, so it brings more money to the state treasury!
Our hazelnuts are organically grown in Turkey and cause transport emissions equivalent to 0.43kWh/kilo (0.12kg CO2 eq./kilo) from cultivation to our warehouse.

Spännande och ganska okänd fågelmat.
