Swedish KRAV-certified organic Quinoa. Incredibly delicious and firm in taste if cooked just right. A fantastic gluten-free alternative to pasta, potatoes, and rice. If you have children who prefer those, you can be satisfied if you manage to replace them with quinoa!
What a fantastic seed to offer in our webshop! It is grown in Skåne and is of the Vikinga variety. Carefully brushed and cleaned, free from floral debris, weed seeds, and stones.
The quinoa we sell comes in Nordic Raw Material packaging and is primarily packed as food. However, as a feed company, we are not technically allowed to sell it as food. One upside to this is that you pay 25% VAT instead of 12.5% (for food), which means a bit more money goes to the treasury when you buy from us.
It is also suitable as bird feed - especially if you rinse (and possibly cook) it first, so the bitterness disappears. At our place, sparrows cautiously try the unwashed seeds. Please report back on what your birds think! So far, this is quite an untested food for birds.
Rinsing/Cooking: Quinoa contains unappetizing soap-like substances, which should be rinsed off before cooking. For the best result, rinse thoroughly in lukewarm water several times until no foam is visible. Ideally, let the quinoa soak for a few hours or overnight after the first rinse and repeat. Then cook in plenty of water like pasta for about 10 minutes (taste to check the "al dente" texture). Add salt and maybe some fat; it's delicious with olive oil drizzled over it.
Tip! Rinsing is much easier if you have a Chinois sieve, you can keep the quinoa in it and let it sit in a larger pot/basin with water. It also works well as a colander for the cooked quinoa.
Quinoa is gluten-free and contains almost the entire range of nutrients by itself; among other things, it is one of the few plant-based sources that contain all the amino acids we need. A perfect seed to replace pasta and potatoes!
